Jumbo yarn is the thickest weight available, typically worked on 12.75mm needles and up, or simply knit by hand with no tools at all. It's designed for maximum speed and impact: a jumbo blanket that would take weeks in a standard weight can often be finished in an afternoon. This weight is especially popular for statement arm-knit blankets, giant floor poufs, and oversized wall hangings where texture and scale are the whole point. Because so little stitching is needed to cover a large area, jumbo yarn is forgiving for total beginners while still looking impressively polished. It's generally worked in soft, chenille-style or plush acrylic fibers that feel comfortable even in such large, dense stitches. If you want the fastest possible route from skein to finished project, jumbo weight is the place to start.
